About Us
We are located in Buffalo Gap Texas, population 490. Buffalo Gap was one of the first settlements in West Texas. It was the center of Buffalo hunting going back to the 1860’s.
First Baptist Buffalo Gap, established in 1880, was literally the “first” Baptist church in west Texas and Taylor County, Texas. First Baptist Church Buffalo Gap was founded on the principles of love, faith and the solid belief in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Faithful members have been serving and worshipping God since 1880 at First Baptist Buffalo Gap.
Attendance in our Sunday worship services is approximately 300 – 400 people. While that is considered small in size, our hearts are large and our faith is deep. We are not recognized for fancy buildings or showy services – we have neither. We are recognized however, for our passion for winning souls for Christ.
First Baptist Church of Buffalo Gap has been recognized by the Billy Graham Evangelical Association as one of the major evangelical churches in America as well as numerous recognitions by the Abilene Baptist Association and the State Baptist Convention. The Lord has truly blessed First Baptist Buffalo Gap.

Our Purpose
We are very clear on our purpose. First Baptist Church Buffalo Gap exists to win people’s hearts to Jesus. We do this by introducing others to Jesus, baptizing new believers, discipling and equipping them for their God given ministry, in order to magnify God.
What We Believe
Bible: We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, Word of God.(2 Timothy 3:16, 17)
Jesus: We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary, shed His blood on the cross at Calvary, died and was buried and rose again bodily and ascended to the Father in Heaven.(John 1:1-14)
Humans: We believe that all men and women are sinners needing a Savior, and that all who, in faith, receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, are born again and are children of God. (Hebrews 2:9)
Baptism: We believe that God calls for public commitment and that one’s salvation should be made public and followed by believer’s baptism. (Matthew 10:32)
Holy Spirit: We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling and filling every Christian is empowered to live a life pleasing to God. (Romans 8:14-27)
Second Coming: We believe that Jesus Christ is coming again.(2 Peter 3:1-18) |
